Lawn Treatments
At True Stripe, we believe in complete transparency about our methods and want you to understand exactly what goes into caring for your lawn. In this section, we'll break down each treatment in detail – from the specific compounds we use to how they benefit your lawn. Whether you're curious about the science behind our approach or simply want to know more about what we're applying to your property, you'll find clear, detailed explanations of each service below.
Our comprehensive care program consists of four specialized treatments.
Macro+ programmes
Grass, like all plants, requires three essential macronutrients to thrive: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, plus iron. Our Macro+ treatments ensure your nutrient needs are covered.
Nitrogen is the key driver of vibrant green growth, promoting the development of new grass blades and the protein synthesis that keeps your lawn looking thick and healthy.
Phosphorus plays a crucial role below the surface, powering root development and enabling efficient energy transfer within each grass plant – think of it as your lawn's battery system.
Potassium, often called the "stress shield" nutrient, strengthens cell walls and regulates water movement within grass blades, helping your lawn resist disease, tolerate drought, and recover from foot traffic. A deficiency in potassium can lead to yellow leaf edges, weak growth, and poor recovery from wear and tear.
Iron, although not a macronutrient, also plays a vital role as a micronutrient that supercharges your lawn's colour. Iron is essential for chlorophyll production, giving grass that deep, rich green colour. As an added benefit, iron applications help naturally suppress moss growth – while iron strengthens grass, it actually weakens and kills unwanted moss, making it an excellent dual-purpose treatment.
We time fertilizer applications precisely with your grass's natural growth cycle and seasonal changes for optimal results:
Spring is a crucial time for a lawn’s health. It has been laying dormant over winter with cold temperatures and low light. Once temperatures increase this becomes the fastest growth period of the year, so it’s important there are nutrients readily available to fuel this growth, particularly Nitrogen. This is our highest Nitrogen feed of the year, with Phosphorus, Potassium and Iron reduced due to the plant’s reduced needs. Summer is ideal for a Humic + Fulvic Acid treatment to improve nutrient availability for the year ahead. Find out more below
Summer feeds are very dependant on weather conditions. During periods of drought (like that of summer 2022) grass goes dormant to reduce its water consumption. Adding nutrients at this time is wasteful and could even scorch the plant. We’ll time our application to when the plant is actively growing and able to absorb nutrients. Our summer fertiliser will be lower in nitrogen than our spring, as growth rates are slower, with higher rates of Potassium to help with stress tolerance. Summer is a great time for Seaweed Extract. Find out more below
Autumn/Winter applications are higher in Potassium to deal with stress, Phosphorus to enhance root development and Iron to build winter hardiness in your grass, applied well before the first frost. This helps the plants recover from scarifying and aerating, and sets for the cold, dark months ahead, ready for the following year.
All of our treatment plans include Macro+ as standard, so you know your lawns essential nutrient needs are covered.
Humic + Fulvic Acid
We offer specialist Humic + Fulvic Acid treatments to enhance the health and resilience of your lawns further.
Humic acids provide several key benefits for lawns by improving soil structure and nutrient availability. They help break up compacted soil, creating better aeration and water retention. This improved soil structure not only allows grass roots to penetrate deeper, but also creates ideal habitats for beneficial bacteria and fungi to thrive. These microorganisms colonize the expanded pore spaces, forming complex networks that further enhance soil structure. The humic acids chelate minerals, making them more bioavailable both to grass plants and to the microbes that help cycle nutrients.
Fulvic acids, being smaller molecules, can penetrate plant tissues more easily and act as natural biostimulants. They work in partnership with soil microorganisms, as the fulvic acids help transport both nutrients and beneficial bacteria into plant tissues. This microbial transport enhances the lawn's metabolic processes and immune responses. The result is better root development, increased chlorophyll production, and a more robust defence against pathogens through beneficial microbe colonization.
Both acids serve as essential food sources and habitat creators for the soil food web. The carbon-rich compounds they provide feed beneficial bacteria and fungi, which in turn break down organic matter into forms that grass can readily use. This creates a virtuous cycle where the acids stimulate microbial activity, leading to better nutrient cycling, which supports more microbial growth and healthier grass. The acids also help buffer soil pH, creating stable conditions that allow diverse microbial populations to flourish. As these microbe communities develop, they become increasingly effective at protecting grass roots from stress and disease while continuing to improve soil structure and nutrient availability.
Humic + Fulvic acid applications are included as standard on our Classic and Premium tier lawncare plans.
Seaweed Extract
Liquid seaweed extract is particularly valuable for lawns due to its rich concentration of natural plant hormones and growth-promoting compounds.
The extract contains cytokinins, which stimulate cell division and delay the aging process in grass blades, helping maintain a vibrant green lawn for longer periods. These hormones also promote lateral bud development, leading to denser turf growth and fewer bare patches.
Auxins, another key hormone group in seaweed extract, primarily target root development. They stimulate the formation of new root hairs and enhance the root system's branching pattern. This improved root architecture allows grass to explore larger soil volumes for water and nutrients, resulting in more resilient turf that better withstands foot traffic and environmental stresses. Other bioactive compounds in seaweed extract include betaines and alginates, which help grass cells maintain proper water balance and improve the lawn's drought tolerance. The natural growth promoters also enhance the grass's recovery rate after mowing or other stresses. Seaweed extract also promotes beneficial microorganism growth and diversity in the soil by providing complex carbohydrates, amino acids, and trace minerals that serve as food sources for bacteria and fungi. The alginic acid in seaweed also helps create ideal soil conditions for microbial life.
Seaweed extract treatment is included as standard for our Classic and Premium tier lawncare plans.
Weed Control
Keep your lawn healthy and beautiful with our professional weed control solutions. We use selective herbicides that target unwanted broadleaf weeds while leaving your grass unharmed. These specialized treatments work by exploiting the biological differences between grass and broadleaf plants, ensuring your lawn stays lush and green throughout the treatment process. We effectively control stubborn lawn invaders including dandelions, clover, plantain, chickweed, and daisy.
We offer two different services to cater to your specific needs.
Spot Treatment: Our precise spot treatment targets individual weeds and clusters, minimizing chemical usage while maximizing effectiveness. This environmentally conscious approach is ideal for most lawns and provides excellent results without unnecessary treatment of weed-free areas.
Blanket Treatment: For lawns with extensive weed coverage, we offer comprehensive blanket treatments. This solution is reserved for situations where spot treatment would be impractical due to heavy weed presence, helping restore your lawn's health and appearance.
We take special precautions to protect your valuable garden plants and ornamentals. We use targeted application methods and protective shields when treating near garden beds. All treatments are performed during low-wind conditions to prevent drift, ensuring only targeted weeds are affected. After weed treatment, we recommend overseeding treated areas to prevent new weeds from taking hold. This proactive approach ensures your grass fills in any bare patches left by eliminated weeds, creating a denser, healthier lawn that naturally resists weed invasion.
